holiday mulled cider


when i think of the holidays, i always think of a special beverages.  one of my all time favorite beverages has to be mulled cider.  i do conserve calories a bit and use light apple juice instead of sugar laden cider.  i think the drink is equally delicious, and no one will ever notice that cider hasn’t been used.  Williams Sonoma offered a nice blend of citrus ginger spices this year.  i actually received this jar as a birthday gift, and have been waiting to use it for several weeks.  by adding a cinnamon stick, and an orange slice, the drink was perfect.

i warmed one quart of apple juice and 2 tablespoons of the mix, which was in a tea ball, for 20 minutes on the stove top.  it is important to remove the spices when the mixture comes off the stove.  serve in pretty glasses, so your guests have the benefit of seeing the fruit and cinnamon.  taking time to just relax with a warm drink can make all the difference in the world.
