by using special reusable butter molds, tiny shapes can be made of butter for special meals and occasions. for the winter months, it is fun to use the snowflake mold to shape butter pats.
the molds can be found in many cooking supply shops. simply soften the butter and form into the mold and freeze. when ready to unmold, simply bend the back of the mold slightly, and the butter pat falls out.
the butter will soften very quickly, so it is important to unmold and serve immediately. the molds i use are very thin, and therefore not much butter is used per mold. these snowflakes make a cute presentation when serving rolls, muffins, or popovers.
